Parents are doubly anxious i their child seems to be just playing and can’t read yet ( at 3 years old). Of course, there is the big grade school entrance test, which is taken at 4-6 years old, depending on the entry level. I wouldn’t worry much about the entrance tests of the big schools. For one, you now have a wider selection grade schools to choose from. What a parent should do is give priority to allowing the child to develop is learning skills in a relaxed environment. Reading to  then eventually develops their keen interest in reading. Play opportunities alone or with friends give them social and thinking skills not learned in books. Time to talk things over builds lasting relationships. These coupled with completing tasks given as simple household chores, prepare child for bigger challenges in grade school.
